Season Formats

At Phillip Island Boardriders Club, we begin each competition season at the start of each financial year. Surfing events run from Spring through to the beginning of Winter, and social events are run throughout the entire year.

Our 2024/2025 Season Membership will open on 01 July 2024.

  • Judging
All surfing competitors (excluding Supergroms) must judge a heat after they’ve surfed a heat, otherwise, we cannot run our events. Anyone who skips on judging will be penalised with a reduction of aggregate points.

We are focusing on levelling up our judging capability this season, so politely request that when members are judging please pay attention to the surf, leave mobile phones alone, spectators will be asked to move away from the judge’s area whilst heats are in progress, and head judges will not be checking rash vest colours.

    Event registration
Late entries will not be accepted into any event. Our scheduling is based on who is registered to compete, so if there is a late or forgotten entry, it really messes up the event. Event registrations are conveniently all online and will be made available with enough time before each event.

If you register for an event but are a ‘no-show’, without a written excuse to the committee, you will be penalised aggregate points, as this creates inefficiencies in our scheduling and wastes all club members and competitors time.

  • All events/divisions (including Supergroms) will run solely on Saturdays, with Saturday afternoon/evening presentation nights.

    Supergroms
Meet at 8.45am at Smiths Beach on the Saturday event day, unless advised otherwise. (Keep up to date via instagram on the day). Please see supergroms page for dates and more info about the program.

    Aggregate Seniors
Meet at Woolamai at 7:30am, unless advised otherwise, based on conditions/forecast. (Keep up to date via instagram on the day)

  • Longboarders meet at the chosen location at 7:30am, unless advised otherwise based on conditions/forecast (Keep up to date via instagram on the day). There will be four longboard events for the season.

    Event divisions

    Juniors mixed (Under 18s)
    Open Men
    Open Women
    Seniors mixed (Over 35s)

  • We will be running a number of special events this season, focused on social surfing and having fun. Check out the Events page for full details.

    Australian Boardriders Battle
PIBC team competing in Australian Boardriders Battle qualifying and final will be at the discretion of Club Captain (unless a ‘Team Manager/Coachʼ is selected specifically by the committee). This team will be decided solely on putting together the strongest team we can field with no bearing on Club results, all surfers must be financial for the season that they are competing in.

    “Over 18” Divisions
Competitors must be of age as of 1st January in the year of competition.

  • • Both over 18 and under 18 surfers can enter a maximum of 2 divisions.

    • Cadets cannot surf both Cadets and Juniors - you must choose one or the other, but you can still surf open.

    • Supergroms strictly can only surf in the Supergroms division and not enter cadets - you must choose to be a Supergrom member, the memberships are structured and priced accordingly to reflect this.

    • Club Captain has full discretion on anyone entering any division - if skill level is not deemed competent or safe given the location, wave conditions or number of entrants, changes can be made.

    • If there are scheduling or timing issues, the Club Captain will withdraw surfers at their discretion to ensure the competition days finish at a reasonable time.

  • You must register for each event to be eligible to enter.

Event registration for all events via Liveheats (liveheats.com/pibc), will open at least 5 days before the event and close each Thursday 6 pm before the Saturday, no excuses for late registrations.

  • PIBC committee reserves the right to hold off allocating the Bells wildcard position, or any other wildcard position awarded to the Club, as it is possible that Club Champions or other surfers will be granted entry into Trials or events through Surfing Vic or other avenues, meaning PIBC will give club position or wildcard to another Club member to maximise PIBC members competing in Trials or events.
