Program Details

The PIBC Supergrom Program has a focus on participation, fun, and creating a love of surfing. By the end of the season we hope that your child has a passion for catching waves, made some lifelong friends and has a strong sense of belonging to the Phillip Island Boardriders Club and that you as a parent have made some great memories. A great number of current senior and open surfers in PIBC started surfing in the Supergroms program themselves and it is a pivotal first step in getting the surfing kids of Phillip Island comfortable in the water and having fun.

It is divided in to 3 age/ability groups with a coach assigned to each group and all Supergroms are in the water at the same time.

There is no minimum skill level or experience required.

Presentation Nights are designed to bring the entire PIBC club together in a social setting, with first the groms presentations and then the seniors later in the evening. We also provide a free BBQ for everyone who attends and ask that members please bring a plate to share, such as chips, salads, cakes etc.

3 Supergroms from each groups will be awarded certificates based on coaches feedback, but we have stickers and all sorts of other sponsorship gear to give away throughout the season.

Membership

Supergroms are classified as Under 18 memberships. Please sign up via our web store and at least one parents is required to register as a social member to enjoy our presentation night free BBQs and all other PIBC social events.

Event registration is always via Liveheats (www.liveheats.com/pibc) so we know who will and will not be present at the beach for each event date, however all grom heats will be starting at 9am without exception. The Liveheats software doesn’t allow divisions the way we operate our groms program, so if the heat time on Liveheats for your child tells you a different time, please disregard it - the surfing starts at 9am for all Supergrom competitors.

The Liveheats registration link will be shared via email, Facebook, Instagram and on our our website prior to each event.

Saturday, 8.30 am - Arrival & Setup

Coaches and our Supergrom Committee members (Amanda Addison and Liz Rennie) will arrive at YCW beach to start setting up. Once you arrive with your child/children, please get changed and proceed to Amanda or Liz to have your child’s name marked off the registration list and put your rash vests on. Your rashvest colour will depend on which coach you have.

9.00 am (sharp) - Warmup

Coaches will go through some warm up training and coaching with your children (parents are welcomed to help join in)

9.20 am - Surf

The megaphone siren will sound and the surfing begins.

All parents and their children can enter the water and enjoy some time out in the surf together, learning new skills and gaining confidence. The coaches and other PIBC members will be out there as well, giving encouragement and guidance if needed. Having fun is what we are all about for our groms and their parents.

10.00 am - Wind-up

The megaphone siren will sound 3 times to designate the official end of the event.

All parents and children finish up in the water, find their coach to have their names ticked off and rashvests returned. At this time could you please let your coach know if you will be joining us for our free BBQ at 5 pm afterwards and if you are able to help bring a salad or platter of some sort to share.

Saturday, 5.00 pm - Club-room Open

Club room and bar opens up

5.30 pm- Free BBQ

Food will be provided for free and drinks will be available at bar prices.

6.00 pm- Presentation begins

After the event the coaches will be writing out certificates for 3 children in their assigned groups who they feel either had a great attitude, improved a lot since last year, caught some great waves and certificates will be awarded for all different reasons, not just on the child’s surfing abilities. These will be awarded after the BBQ (so another reason to let your coaches know if you will be there please).
