President Report 2021/22

As we reflect on the 2021-22, I write to thank you all for a fantastic season full of achievements. Since becoming President in February 2022 at a special general meeting, we have certainly achieved a lot and I am so proud of our club and grateful to have had the support of the members and committee, particularly, Vice President, Geoff Russell, who has encouraged and mentored many throughout the season.

From November 2021 to February 2022 the Club committee looked after things following the resignation of Club President Dylan Mathews.  We took a moment at the Special General meeting to acknowledge and thank Dylan for his years of service to the Club and surfing community, especially setting us up for the future by transitioning the club governance and operations online.

From the success of the specialty events to the introduction of the Longboard Classics, as well as our Victorian and Longboard Titles win, and ABB achievements in Newcastle, we are certainly a club that’s firing!

This season we were successful in our application for grants of $2,500 for youth development and $5,000 from the Change our Game program was also achieved. These grants will focus on developing women in surfing. Both grants will help us to create programs for our members designed by our members. Funds from these programs will be used to tailor programs to be delivered in the 2022-23 season.

Through other grant programs and Council support, we have been able install new security cameras throughout the club, upgrade to keyless locks and equipment and purchase new IPads to replace the tablets previously used by our judges.

Special mention to our outgoing Club Captain Harry de Roth and Treasurer Marcus Wright, who have decided to step aside after years of dedicated service. On behalf of the Club, I thank Harry and Marcus for everything they have contributed over the years, giving up weekends to run surfing events, working in the bar, and doing any job that needs to be done.

The success of the season’s super groms program is thanks to Deb Leonard and Tim Anagnostou. They were the backbone behind the program’s success. Additional longboard events were established thanks to Andy McHenry. His passion for the longboarding community certainly came through at each event. These events were so successful we will be continuing them in the next season and welcome any newcomers to sign up.

Although this club is about surfing, it is also about enjoying a beer and BBQ back at the club. Without the help of volunteers like Nat Van Der Heyden and others, we wouldn’t have such great presentation nights.

Lastly, I would like to thank our life members that continue to show up, encourage the next generation and provide support.

The first aggregate for the 2022-23 season will kick off on the 23rd of October with an end of end of season aggregate and gathering on the 10th of December 2022. We've been working hard behind the scenes to plan a range of events, formats and divisions to get the most out of the season so we’re hoping for excellent waves and good vibes for the year to come. Details have been updated https://pibc.com.au/events

I am so excited for the next season of surfing and events, particularly as it will be our 60th year anniversary so for anyone keen to contribute to our growing club in any capacity, big or small, please reach out and get on board for next season! (many hands make light work)

Thank you to sponsors and donations throughout the season, especially our major sponsors Bang Bang, Eisen Property and McHenry Motors as well as Carve Media, Archisign and Woolamai Pizza for their support. Ozone Blues also provided some great live music at our presentation nights, and we can’t wait to get them back next season.

Treasurer’s report 2021-22

Marcus Wright Treasurer 2021/22

It was another very successful year for the club financially which has put the club in a secure position going forward. Bouncing back from a COVID interrupted season the club had many wins.

Some highlights include:

  • Membership increased to the highest they have been in the last five years.

  • Bar takings continue to be strong despite a few contest presentations being held at the beach.

  • Securing $13,500 in revenue from grants. A big thank you to Hannah & Geoff for doing most of the work behind these.

  • Additional $2,000 revenue coming from selling raffle tickets on presentation nights, and - Securing $5,000 in sponsorship

The club brought in an extra $30,000 in revenue compared to last year which is an incredible effort!

On the expenses side of things, the club maintained a similar level of spending as previous seasons, which is impressive considering the additional amount of revenue that has come in. The biggest expense item was merchandise at $8,000, this expense will be clawed back in the next season when the merchandise is purchased by members. The next biggest expense item was Clubhouse Equipment & Fittings at $7,500. Items in this category include a new speaker for events, a new BBQ, a new gazebo, new security camera system, a new cash safe and new iPads. All of these aimed at improving the experience for the members. The next biggest item is Presentation nights. This includes everything involved with hosting our post event presentation nights (eg. Food and drinks).

The club has continued to maintain strong financial security. This has been through a number of controls including: two person approvals on debit card purchases, electronic POS systems, not leaving any cash undeposited and the use of accounting software Xero.

Overall, the club is in a strong and secure financial position which has been a result of hard work from all committee members over a number of years. This will allow the club to prioritise key areas and fund the continue repairs and maintenance that is required on the clubhouse.
