Annual Report 2019/2020 Season
Annual General Meeting - Sunday 4th October 2020 at 12pm on Zoom (Video Link)
We are pleased to provide our members, sponsors and supporters a summary of the PIBC 2019/20 season.
From the President (Dylan Matthews)
Firstly, a huge thank you is extended to the PIBC members, friends and sponsors for making this season out most successful yet. A particular thank you to the PIBC committee for always stepping up the challenge and volunteering their time to ensure the club continues to grow and evolve with the times.
Given what’s going on with covid-19, it’s easy to forget how much was achieved in the past 12 months, specifically:
Victorian Teams Titles Champions (the only club to beat Torquay in 10 years!)
Australian Boardriders Battle National Final, 9th place (out of 25 clubs across AUS, 1 place higher than 2018/19 season)
All hands working bee & PIBC Clubroom improvements
New kitchen facilities (thanks Nick & Bianca)
4 tap keg system
Entire clubroom internal painting (thanks Nivo & all the painters)
Sliding door refurbishment
Pool table (thanks Tom Onley)
Table Tennis table
Carpet clean (thanks Dano)
Couches
Committee room new wall (thanks Stevo & Rob)
Rubbish removal (thanks Marcus)
Landscaping (thanks Tony & Maria Liatos)
Stage alterations (thanks Cam)
Garage clean out and trailer clean up
Presentation night food (thanks Pete, Leigh (Woolamai Pizza) & the amazing supergrom parents for their spreads)
and may other bits and pieces…
The items above were a collective effort between hundreds of club members, committee members, friends, family and supporters, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who continues to support the club.
This coming season, still with many unknowns, the best approach will be an agile one, in which we can adapt to the changing restrictions, challenges and environment as the next several months evolve. Our need for additional assistance, volunteers and help getting through these times will be more important than ever - if you’d like to help out in any way, please contact the myself or anyone in the committee directly.
Despite the unknowns, what I and the committee can promise is that we’ll continue to work to ensure all members will be able to participate in surfing events, attend social events safely and continue the amazing progress made from the last 3 seasons into what will hopefully be the best summer season in PIBC history.
Cheers,
Dylan Matthews

Club Captain Report
Harry de Roth
Firstly I’d just like to say thank you to everyone that gave me the opportunity to be Club Captain this season it was an absolute honour (especially being a blow in) and I’m so stoked on what we managed to achieve! I got to meet a lot of new people and make some rad new friends so thank you all for being so welcoming.
I feel so lucky to have been apart of such an epic season for P.I.B.C. I’m very proud of all the work we managed to get done on maintaining and improving the club rooms and it was great to hear that so many people appreciated that and we were able to get a lot more crew around the club again. My personally highlight for the season would have to be taking the teams title win off Torquay and bringing the titles back to Woolamai and P.I.B.C ! The team we had for that event were just on fire, Codie started us off with a banger and everyone followed suit it was just so epic to watch! Let’s just hope we get some 4ft double ups at woolies with a hell rip for next year !!
As for our boardriders events this year I feel as though the level of surfing really lifted in the club especially through some of the younger divisions. There were a few groms that really stood out to me with their surfing improving every contest and that was Niamh Moore, Charlie Bruce and Kyle Griffin. Well done guys, I’m really excited to see how you go next season after all the surfing you would have done this winter with all the waves we’ve had!
We also had the Longboard division make a return this season so was great to get a few new people around the club for that. This is a division I would be keen to keep improving for next season by trying to get more people in the division and really iron out what we’re looking for whether it’s more of a classic style of longboarding or slightly more performance and inline with the WSL rules. I think one way we could potentially improve it would be to have a long boarding commissioner. Someone who is keen on longboarding and knows enough about it in both aspects of performance and style who could work alongside the club captain (I’m very keen but know nothing about it!!). This could be to help decide when or where it would be best for the mals to surf or pointing us in the direction of what longboarders are wanting from their club whether they want to be performance based or take it old school. So if there is anyone that keen and thinks they could fill this role please contact us as I think it could make a big difference for the division.
Presentation nights seemed like a major success this year with some epic food being served and a lot more activities for everyone to do at club. This was one of our main goals for the season to get more people back to the club for presentation as we know it can be hard after a long day at the beach! We wanted to make it as fun as possible for everyone and I feel as though we really succeeded in doing that with the pool table, table tennis and not to mention the beanbag corner for the Grommies with the PS2 and Kelly Slater Pro Surfer game! But all of that couldn’t happen without our members being such legends and making the effort to get back there so thank you to all of you guys you really make it what it is and it really is greatly appreciated. I hope we can continue you on this next season and try to make them even bigger and better again!
Speaking of presentation, obviously due to COVID19 we didn’t get to have an end of season like we normally do so I’ve included the top 3 for each division here. Just before that I’d like to say a massive congratulations to all the 2019/20 season division winners we were dealt a lot of very tricky conditions and you made the most out of it and came out on top so congratulations. Thank you to everyone that competed you all made it so much fun and nicely competitive at the same time!

Finally I would just like to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors and supporters of P.I.B.C it would have been a very tough year without you guys so thank you for that. And on a personal note an even bigger thank you and shoutout to the Cicero Clan, Matt and Max Andretta, Matty Phillips, Steve Turner, The Goldsburys and everyone else that helped me setup the comp site in the mornings and always being keen to help judge! Some of them were freezing, windy mornings at Woolies and it just wouldn’t have been much fun without you guys so I really appreciate that!
